Antoinette Marie (Grippo) Cini, 93, of 81 Irving Street, Mystic, passed away December 28th at Woodridge Nursing Home in the beautiful Green Mountains of Barre, VT. Prior to this, she was a resident of Academy Point at Mystic for 18 months.
Known as “Aunt Agnes”, she will be sadly missed by her loving niece and caretaker Donna Grippo Johnson, husband Raymond Johnson, and their children, Ray Jr. and Louise Johnson all of VT.
Mrs. Cini was predeceased by her husband Hector J. Cini on March 2, 2006. They were married in New London on January 14, 1951. Her brothers, John, Milo, Marlio and sister Prudence also predeceased her.
Agnes graduated from W.M.I. in New London in 1933. She attended Mitchell College for accounting and was a bookkeeper for Hendel Furniture and Brustolon Pontiac. She was a floor supervisor for Woolworth’s and a leather-goods buyer for Kaplan’s which required trips to New York City. As an employee of the U.S. Naval Underwater Sound Lab, she met her husband, Hector.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Morese.
She was an accomplished seamstress and decorator, yet devoted years of care-giving to her brother Marlio and sister Prudence. She enjoyed gardening, helping Hector with wine-making events, participating in his jazz band socials, and travelling to Vermont.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday at 10:30am, followed by a service at 11am.Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New London.
