Obituary

Edward M. Hurley, 93, of New Bedford died May 9, 2003 at Our Lady's Haven after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Rosamond L. (Webber) Hurley.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Cornelius F. and Bridget A. (Duggan) Hurley, he had lived in New Bedford for all of his life. He was a graduate of Holy Family High School.

He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mr. Hurley was the owner and operator of New Bedford Sign Company for many years until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, participating in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinowa, and was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medal with 2 stars, the American Area medal and the World War II Victory medal.

Mr. Hurley was a member of the Old Dartmouth Historical Society and a former member of Serra Club. He enjoyed carving wood.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan B. Hurley of New Bedford; a brother, Maurice Hurley of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Cornelius F. Hurley, Jr., and Joseph Hurley.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday, May 12th at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Sunday, May 11th from 4-7 PM.
