Mary Helen Gillis Fowler, 85, of Fitzgerald, died December 28, 2008, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, December 31 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Barry Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins. The family will receive friends from 7-9, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Fowler was born February 5, 1923, in Montgomery County to the late Columbus L. and Maebelle Sharpe Gillis. She moved to the community in 1993 from Warner Robins. Mrs. Fowler was a retired L.P.N., receiving her training at Macon Hospital. She worked as an L.P.N. at Houston Medical Center, Robins Air Force Base Hospital and Taylor Regional Hospital. Mrs. Fowler was a charter member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Warner Robins and a member of Irwinville Baptist Church. She was a member of the Camellia Garden Club, an avid gardener, an oil painting artist and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
Mrs. Fowler is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Emily Susan & David Wynn of Fitzgerald and Connie Simmerlein of Lakeland, Fl; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sisters & brothers-in-law, Elise & James Stevens and Flora Belle & Harold Keys all of Macon as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Durward Earl Fowler, son-in-law, George Simmerlein, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
