Obituary

Raymond Joseph Camara, 75, of Mattapoisett died Tuesday May 6, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beverly (Mello) Camara.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gracia) Camara, he had lived in New Bedford before moving to Mattapoisett in 1966. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.

Mr. Camara was formerly employed as plant foreman at Epec Inc., the Aerovox Corporation, and the Atlas Tack Company, and had also been employed at The Standard-Times.

Mr. Camara served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, and in his younger days, bowling.

Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Thomas J. Camara, and his wife JoAnn, of New Bedford, Michael J. Camara, and his wife Carol, of Middleboro, and Paul A. Camara of Mattapoisett; 2 brother, Joseph Camara, and his wife Arlene, of New Bedford; a sister, Katherine Correia of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren, Sean Camara, Brandon Camara, Ann Freeman and Victor McKay; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Marjorie Singleton, Edward Camara and Mary Camara Grady.

Private Funeral Services were held on Friday morning at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Mattapoisett Emergency Medical Services, ____________, Mattapoisett, MA 02739, or to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
