Obituary

NORTH ANDOVER — Joseph "Joe" G. Driscoll, 83, died unexpectedly, Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at the Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and educated in Lawrence, Joseph was the son of Patrick and Theresa (Lawlor) Driscoll.

A graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1943, Joe enlisted in the Navy during World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater, including battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Upon his return, Joseph worked for many years at the Lawrence Packaging Co. as an offset pressman. He later went on to work for the Lawrence Public School System until his retirement. A longtime communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Andover, Joe was a member of the Lawrence Lodge of Elks # 65 BPOE, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A proud veteran, Joseph enjoyed sharing his experiences of World War II, and recently spoke about them to his granddaughters third grade class at the Franklin School in North Andover. Joe loved spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters.

Joseph leaves behind, his wife of 57 years, Ruth M. (Fielding); his two children, Kevin J. and his wife Kelly Driscoll of Haverhill, and Mary Ellen Driscoll of North Andover. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Mackenzie, Grace, and Addison Driscoll, his "special" niece, Sheila Lafond, nephews, William, Leo, John, and Patrick Driscoll and niece, Deborah Blackwell. Joseph is predeceased by his brother, Leo J. and sister, Sr. Mary Teresita, MM.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Andover. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the St. Augustine's Parish Building Fund, 35 Essex St., Andover, MA 01810.
