John G. “Jack” Doresky, age 72, of 305 Greenhaven Road, Pawcatuck, died Wednesday afternoon at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jack was born in Danville, PA on August 12, 1930 the son of John and Pamela “Millie” Doresky. Raised in Danville, he was a 1948 graduate of Danville High School.
After his graduation, he immediately entered the US Navy where he enjoyed a distinguished 20 year career, retiring from the USS Greenling in 1968.
A resident of Pawcatuck since 1975, he was employed as the Administrative Clerk at the US Sub-base Power Plant in Groton.
Jack was a member of the Fleet Reserve branch 24 in Annapolis, Groton Lodge of Elks, and the Harley P. Chase Post, VFW in Pawcatuck.
In his spare time, Jack enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his cherished dogs. He also spent numerous hours each week doing yardwork, transforming his property into an admired area of flowering trees, shrubs, and flowers. Jack was also an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan.
He married Mary Virginia (Abbott) Doresky in Annapolis on May 21, 1955. They were to have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this month.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Vivian Doresky of Columbus, Ga, a sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Ed Reilly of Delaware; two grandchildren, Jack and Mason Doresky , and several nieces and nephews.
Jack’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 12noon until 1:45pm. A Service will immediately follow at 2pm. Burial with military honors will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
