TEWKSBURY: Sebastiano Schiavone, age 78, a resident of Tewksbury for the past two years, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
He was the devoted husband of Grazia “Lina” (Zammitti) Schiavone, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 22, 2008.
Born in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy on March 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Macca) Schiavone.
Mr. Schiavone was raised and educated in Italy.
At age 18, he entered the State Police Academy in Italy. Following graduation, he began a career in law enforcement with Italy’s State Police.
In 1974, he and his family moved to Medford, Massachusetts, where he was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish and the former St. James Church.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was employed by the Vaisala Corporation of Woburn.
Mr. Schiavone resided in Medford for over 30 years until moving to Tewksbury in 2006.
According to his family, he was an avid and dedicated fan of his grandchildren’s soccer games. In addition, he enjoyed traveling to his homeland in Italy to visit family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by one son, Salvatore Schiavone and his wife Barbara of Tewksbury; two daughters, Maria Petruzzelli and her husband Franco of Tewksbury and Monica Schiavone of Oakland, CA; three grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Schiavone and Christian Petruzzelli all of Tewksbury.
Mr. Schiavone was pre-deceased by one brother and two sisters.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, December 28th, from 5-9:30 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Monday, December 29th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack St., Lowell. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
