Mr. Stephen Demetriou, 89, passed away Tuesday December 23rd at Lowell General Hospital.
Stephen was born September 1, 1919 in Lowell, Massachusetts a son of the late George and Elizabeth (Goulas) Demetriou.
A resident of Lowell at an early age, Stephen was a graduate of Lowell High School.
He served his country during World War II in the Army. Upon his return, while attending classes at Bentley School of Accounting he began work for the Boston and Maine railroad retiring as a foreman after twenty years. Stephen most recently worked for the past twelve years in the Groton School Dept. up until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lowell for twenty-five years.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mrs. Stella (Karabineris) Demetriou of Westford, a son, George Demetriou of Westford; a daughter, Elizabeth Costello and her husband Robert of South Carolina; a brother, Chris Demetriou and his wife Christine of Lowell; a grandson, Eric Desautel; three nephews, Steven Demetriou, Gary Demetriou, and Nicholas Demis; and a niece, Mary Demis.
He was the brother to the late Portia Demis.
Relatives and friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. His funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Monday at 9am with a funeral service to be held the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell at 10am. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
