WORCESTER: George A. Bergan, 91, of 41 Arbutus Rd., died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at UMass Memorial Medical Center- University Campus. His wife of 58 years, Dorothy E. (Manfield) Bergan, died July 12, 2002.
He leaves a son, John W. Bergan and his wife Patricia of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Jean C. Vangel and her husband John of Sterling; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and a brother predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late George W. and Edith (Sizer) Bergan, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School.
George was a machine adjuster at U.S. Envelope in Worcester for 40 years. He then worked for several years at New England Envelope, retiring in 1980. He was a long time member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and a life time member and former officer of the Frohsinn Club. He enjoyed betting on the stock market and horse racing.
CALLING HOURS will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on MONDAY, Dec. 29, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 9 a.m. on TUESDAY, Dec. 30, in OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY CHURCH, 25 Fales St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. The family suggests donations in memory of George be made to the Annual Youth Campaign of the YMCA Central Branch, 766 Main St., Worcester, MA 01610.
