DOWNS, NORMAN PERRY, 84, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born December 22, 1924 in Grayson County, KY. He was a member of Greenwood United Baptist Church for 38 years and he attended Rockford View United Baptist Church for the past several years. He was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ella Elizabeth Downs; his parents, Aaron and Zora Downs; four infant children, Donald Gene, Norman Perry Jr., Philip Aaron and Norman Perry III as well as several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sarah Margaret Downs; his son, Ronald Downs (Debbie); daughter, Mary Douthitt (Joe); grandchildren, Rachel Kiefer, Matthew Douthitt, Jessica Silveria and Christina Lamkin; and great grandchildren Joseph, Caleb, Jayde Kiefer, Sadie Burgin, Jasmin Lamkin, Alonah Lamkin and Maya Silveria.
Norman was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on destroyers, including the USS Fletcher and retired from Capaletti Bros. Const. Co. in Dade Co., FL. In retirement he owned Norman's Crafts, hand making wooden craft items. He will be remembered and loved by all as a unique man.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial in McGrew Church Cemetery, Annetta, KY.
Visitation: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
