Mr. Walter F. Basilio, 88 of Medford, died Tuesday in the Sunbridge Nursing facility of North Reading.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Cuneo) Basilio. He is a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1938. He served in the Navy as a Coxswain during WWII.
A unique and private man, he worked for the former Union Gear Company, prior to his military service and returned there after the war. He became a Foreman and worked for over 40 years.
He was an avid golfer and was also known for his tomatoes in the garden. He loved Martha’s Vineyard and spent many weekends there both helping in the restoration of homes and just enjoying the time there.
He is the last of four children and the brother of the late Edward Basilio, Dorothy Ferretti and Aldine Bowen. He also leaves a niece Virginia Capone of Medford and also survived by 3 great-nephews, 3 great-nieces and 7 great great-nieces.
His funeral will be held Monday at 9 AM from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. MEDFORD, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 pm.
