Barbara W. Casey, 84

Barbara (Wells) Casey, 84, of Mansfield died on Sunday December 21, 2008 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Matthias Casey and the late John F. Gilleran.
Born in Boston, MA on July 3, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Dr. Charles and Grace (Learned) Wells.
She grew up in Randolph, was educated in Randolph public schools and was a graduate of Stetson High School in Randolph. In 1944 Barbara enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving her country as a WAVE during WWII. She was honorably discharged on April 11, 1946 with the rank of Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class.
After returning home from serving her country she continued her education at Boston University where she received her degree in Practical Arts and Letters and was a member of the Phi Beta Phi Sorority.
Prior to retiring Barbara had worked as a Tele-Typist at the former Sears Roebuck Co. in the Foxfield Plaza for several years before retirement.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, she was a former member of the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and had faithfully volunteered for many years at the Mansfield Health Center and was a recipient of a 1000 hour pin in recognition of her service to the organization.
She held a special fondness in her heart for cats, enjoyed crocheting, reading and most of all treasured the times spent with her adoring children and grandchildren. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past 40 years and was a former longtime resident of Randolph.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children Kathleen A. Stone of Irving, Texas, Brian F. Gilleran and his wife Lisa of Herndon, Virginia, Steven K. Gilleran and his wife Jane of Mansfield, Douglas J. Gilleran and his wife Diane of Suffield, Conn., Elinor M. Shuman and her husband Richard of Amherst and the late Daniel C. Gilleran. She was the dear sister of the late Edward Wells and the late Richard Wells. Also surviving are her cherished 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday December 27th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday December 26th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
