Obituary

Edward Szynal, of New Bedford passed away Sunday December 21, 2008 at the age of 84.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Nellie (Chmiel) Szynal, he attended New Bedford Vocational High School and worked at Continental Screw for years as a supervisor of machinists until he retired.

He was a master carpenter and machinist who built his own home in Freetown (where he lived for twenty years), made custom furniture and put his innumerable talents to work for his family and friends. He loved working with wood and could build anything.

He served in the Seabees, the renowned construction battalion, in World War II. He is predeceased by his brothers Henry and Albert, whom he often spoke of fondly, both veterans of WWII.

Friendly and charming, Edward's wit and charisma made him very popular with everyone he came across. He enjoyed old movies, "The Three Stooges", "That 70's Show" and crossword puzzles.

He loved his independence and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sister Lylia Cambra and sister in law Winifred Szynal, both of New Bedford, and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-7 PM prior to the funeral service. Private burial with military honors will be held at the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
