Charles P. McLaughlin, 83, of Abington, died with his five daughters by his side, Sunday December 21st in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Jane (Carroll) McLaughlin of Abington. He was born in Boston, son of the late Charles and Lillian (Alberti) McLaughlin. Charles was employed by the University Hospital and retired from Boston Medical Center in Boston as a currier, he also worked at John Hancock Life Insurance company as an agent ,the 7UP Bottling Company and after retiring he worked at Trucchis. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a Machinist’ Mate 3C in the 71st Construction battalion of the Seabees .He was a communicant of the St. Bridget Church, in Abington for many years, Charles bowled for sixty years at Maples Alleys in Brockton and also roller skated locally for more than 60 years, he was also a avid Red Sox fan. Charles was well known in both Abington and Rockland. He was a member of the Abington VFW and American Legion.
In addition to his beloved wife Jane of 62 years , he the loving father of his five daughters, Jane Graham and her husband Craig of Whitman, Barbara Rose and her husband Edward , Danice Ewell and her husband David all of Rockland, Marlena Derosier and her husband Norman”Colie”of Bridgewater and Maryann Somontes and her husband Philip of Abington, his sister Patricia McLaughlin of Nevada; also grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 9,loving known as “Binky” .He was also the brother of the late John and Francis McLaughlin,
His services will be held on Wednesday December 24th at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in the St. Bridget Church in Abington. Internment will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland, MA. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday December 23rd from 4:00-8:00PM.
