Obituary

Raymond J. Garrey Sr. 80 of Franklin died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family Friday December 19, 2008. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Wilson) Scheffler-Garrey who died in March of 2008, and the late Michelina D. “Lena” (Taddeo) Garrey, who died in 1997.
Born in Woonsocket, RI August 18, 1928 a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Laba) Garrey, he was raised and educated in Franklin and lived here most of his life. He did reside in Lancaster, Ohio for 11 years until returning to Franklin several months ago.
He was a retired laborer, having been associated with the Laborer’s International Union #138 in Norwood, MA since 1954.
He served in the United States Army during the closing days of WW11. He attained the rank of private, and was awarded the World War11 Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1947.
He was a past commander of Franklin Post #3402 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was an active member of the Franklin Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling around the country.
He is survived by three sons William J. Garrey and his wife Kathy, Michael J. Garrey and his wife Kathy and Raymond J. Garrey Jr. and his fiancée Heidi Osborne all of Franklin, three stepsons David Scheffler and his wife Kristi of Ohio, Don Scheffler and his wife Kimberly of Oregon, Dean Scheffler and his wife Melodee of Florida, three stepdaughters Diane Ferguson, Deborah Shuster and Darla Caulk and her husband Mark all of Ohio. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with Military Honors Tuesday Dec. 23, 2008 at 10AM in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, (www.franklinfuneral.com).
Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday Dec. 22, 2008 from 4-8PM.
