Obituary

James L. Byrne, 87, of Londonderry, NH died Friday December 19, 2008 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Byrne was born in Melrose, MA on December 15, 1921, son of the late Lawrence L. and Viola (Browne) Byrne. He had resided in Londonderry for the past 25 years, formerly living in Stoneham, MA for 30 years. Mr. Byrne served with the US Coast Guard during WWII. He retired in 1983 from Beaver Corp. in Malden, MA where he worked as a construction supervisor. He was a founding member of the pee wee hockey league in Stoneham, MA. He was the original head hockey coach for Lawrence High School, coaching them to the state championships during the late 1960’s. He was a communicant of St. Jude Parish, Londonderry.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marion E. (Gormley) Byrne of Londonderry, his son, Dick Byrne and his wife Sandy of Sunapee, NH, his daughter, Donna Byrne of Center Conway, NH, three grandchildren, Jennifer Restifo of Davenport, Fl, Jason Byrne of Claremont, NH and Zachary Byrne of Denver, CO, two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Sydney, two brothers, Francis Byrne of Manchester, NH, David Byrne of Wakefield, MA, one sister, Dorothy Goldstein of Atkinson, NH, also many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Parish Building Fund, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
