Obituary

Edward C. Lambert of Needham died on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Wingate at Needham He was 89 years old. Born in Brighton, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Elizabeth F. (Clark) Lambert. Mr. Lambert was a graduate of Boston Latin and Boston College Class of 1943. While at BC, he was a member of the legendary football team that played in the Orange, Cotton and Sugar Bowls. Mr. Lambert received his Master Degree in Education from Boston University. In March of 1943 Mr. Lambert enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during World War II. After the war, he served in the Navy reserves and was reactivated to serve during the Korean War. From 1948 to 1950 he taught at Boston Latin and also coached football, hockey, basketball and baseball for Boston Latin. After the Korean War, Mr. Lambert began his tenure with the Boston Public Schools. He was a Guidance Counselor and then Headmaster at Dorchester High. Mr. Lambert then became Assistant Superintendant of the Boston Public Schools. He retired in in 1980. Mr. Lambert moved to Needham in 1964 and was a member of Saint Joseph Parish. In his retirement, he was a member of the Needham Retired Men’s Club. The beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Griffin) Lambert, he was the loving father of Stephanie Burns of Mansfield, Natalie Bohan of Norwood, Edward D. Lambert of Mansfield, William C. Lambert of Boston and Suzanne Rogerson of Weymouth. Brother of the late William L. Lambert and Natalie Leary. Grandfather of 12 grandchildren and great grandfather of 7. Also survived many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351Highland Ave Needham on Monday, December 22 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4-7 PM. Interment with Military Honors at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
