Obituary

Carpenter, Christine Hornsby (Swaim) of Norwood and formerly of Chestnut Hill and Waltham died on December 16, 2008. She was 56 and the beloved wife of Robert Carpenter for 23 years.

She was the devoted mother of Amy Hornsby and her fiancé, Mathew Ward of Spartanburg, SC, Steven Hornsby and Sue Mackey, their daughters, Jasai and Kiley Ann of Pointciana, FL, and the daughter of the late Thomas G. Swaim.

Ms. Carpenter is also survived by her mother, Way Swaim of Cambridge and brothers, James F. Swaim of Brookline, Thomas G. Swaim, Jr. of Norfolk and sister, Stephanie S. Lind of Cranberry Township, PA.

Mrs. Carpenter attended the Chestnut Hill School, the Brimmer and May School, and the Newport School for Girls. In her youth, she summered in Nahant where she developed a passion for the ocean.

She was an avid poet and aspiring songwriter. Her poetry, songwriting acumen, and devotion to family are captured well in the recorded song about her son, Steven entitled “First Born.”

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, December 20 from 2:00-5:00 pm in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin.

Internment will be private.
