Sarah E.(Thorndike) Haydock, a long time resident of Chestnut Hill and Ipswich, died on December 12, 2008 in Dedham of complications from Parkinson’s disease.
She was born on December 18, 1928, a daughter of Augustus and Olivia Lowell Thorndike. She was a graduate of Chatham Hall and attended Radcliffe College for two years before marrying Francis Bishop Haydock on June 17, 1949.
During her life she served many noble causes including the Church of the Redeemer, the Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Peabody Foundation. She also served as a Trustee of the Cotting School. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames and was President of the Chilton Club.
She is survived by her husband, Francis, and their three children; Roger of Brattleboro, VT; Charles of Boston; and Olivia Kistner of Needham. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two brothers, John and W. Nicholas Thorndike.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Redeemer, 379 Hammond Street, Chestnut Hill. Funeral arrangements are being made by Eaton Funeral Home, Needham.
