Samuel Rufus Bailey, 75, Clarksville, died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at his residence. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Forney and Rev. Mary Margaret Flannagan officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 17, 1933 in Kingsport, TN, son of the late Rufus K. Bailey and Irene Steadman Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a self-employed cattle buyer. He received the "Torch of Preparation" for being chosen the outstanding freshman in agriculture at the University of Tennessee in 1951. He was a member of the Montgomery County Cattlemen's Association, a member of the Tennessee Cattlemen's Association, and a member of the National Cattlemen's Association. Survivors include his wife, Florence Bailey, son David S. Bailey (Debra), Clarksville; daughters, Diane Bailey, (William Smith), Johnson City, TN; and Mary Bailey, Nashville; a brother, George Bailey. Kingsport, and a sister, Barbara Bailey Trent, Kingsport; and three grandchildren, James, Samantha, and Jacob Bailey. Pallbearers will be Jim Akers, Mark Barnett, Bill Freeman, Raymond Fussell, Don Morgan, Robert Parchman, Leon Sitter, Charlie Stack, Ralph Swords, and Robert T. Wyatt.
