Obituary

Carolyn Glass Shiver, 69, of Tifton died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Ronnie Howell, Rev. Gary Minton and Rev. Roger Mays will officiate with burial to follow in Damascus Methodist Church Cemetery in Ty Ty. David Carter, Chris Shiver, Randy Ogletree, Mitch Ogletree, Russ Ogletree and Lee Ogletree will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Phillip Roberts, Dr. Thomas Neal, Ms. Helen Tucker, Ms. Dawn Bean, Ms. Donna James, Js. Debbie Fischer, Ms. Evelyn Golden, Dr. Steve Rigdon and staff, Gwen Pate, Kay Marchant, Sherri Ogletree, Wanda Edenfield, Cindy Stephenson, and the nurses and staff of United Hospice of Cordele. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 15, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Shiver was born on November 2, 1939 in Pavo and was the daughter of Melvin Otis Glass and Ruth Jeannette Green Glass, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Melva Jean Glass Lanier.

After marrying Randall Shiver, she spent her early married life supporting her Navy husband and rearing their children, often alone while her husband served in Vietnam. After her return to Tifton, Mrs. Shiver worked at the ABAC bookstore, the Tifton Magistrate's Office, Omega City Clerk's office and, in 2004, retired from the Tifton Clerk of Court's Office.

Mrs. Shiver is survived by her husband of 52 years, Randall Shiver of Tifton; one son, Randy Shiver of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Ben L. Towson, of Tifton; five grandchildren, Chris Shiver of Florida, Lindsey Towson of Tifton, Haley Shiver of Pennsylvania, Morgan Shiver of Pennsylvania, and Katy Shiver of Texas; four great grandchildren, Mathew Shiver of Florida, Tori Shiver of Florida, J. C. Shiver of Florida, and Nina Shiver of Florida; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Mathew Stringer of Cartersville and Joyce Carter and Jerry Hardy of Mauk; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Lonnie Glass of Leesburg and Robert and Ruby Glass of Jefferson; and special caregivers, Shirley and Brian Mincey of Tifton.
