Worcester—Ernest A. Carlson, 85, died Saturday, December 13, 2008. He leaves a sister, Ruby Mann of Manchester, NH; 3 nephews, Warren Mann of NH, Jon Hanson of Holden, and Robert Hanson of FL; 1 niece, Karla Hanson of Holden; and his life-long, dear friend, Esther Troio of Worcester. He was predeceased by his brother, Clarence Carlson, and sister, Mabel Hanson.
Ernest Albin Carlson was born and raised in Worcester, son of Anna E. (Cedarholm) and John A. Carlson. He was a WWII Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. PFC Carlson served in the Medical Detachment 264th Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Leopold Troop Transport Mission and was rescued off the coast of France on Christmas Eve 1944 after the SS Leopoldville sank.
A Memorial Service will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, Friday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. Burial of ashes will be in Old Swedish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472
