Robert A. LeBel

...retired M.D.C. Police officer, Vet. of WW2 and Korea; 79

TEWKSBURY - Robert A. LeBel, age 79, a former Metropolitan District Police Officer andTewksbury Businessman, died unexpectedly Friday morning, May 2, at Saints Memorial MedicalCenter in Lowell. He was the husband of Claire (Lowrey) LeBel, with whom he had celebrated a53rd wedding anniversary this past September.

He was born in Lowell, Dec. 13, 1923, a son of the late Wilfred and Anna (Harrison) LeBel. Hewas raised in Lowell and graduated Lowell High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy duringWWII, and later served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Navy’s SubmarineCorps and served aboard the SS 406, USS Sea Poacher.

He was a retired officer for the Metropolitan District Commission Police, and was stationedthroughout Eastern and Central Massachusetts during his career. Prior to his commission withthe M.D.C., he served as a Lowell Police Officer for a short time. During his police career, andupon retirement, he owned and operated the Merrimack Driving School in Tewksbury. Morerecently, he was a licenced electrician, and worked as an electrician at Phillips Academy inAndover, and was also a licenced H.V.A.C. technician.

He was a member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Association, the Tewksbury D.A.V. Post 110,the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post 8164, the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge # 2070, and theRetired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jesse LeBel of Methuen, one daughter and son-in-law,Robin and her husband Edward Farley of Tewksbury, one brother and sister-in-law, Emile“Joseph” and his wife Jeannette LeBel of Lowell, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa andher husband Frank Sullivan of Tewksbury, Jill Mullen of Lowell, two grandchildren, RobertFarley and Corie Farley, and many nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Colette Bouchard.

His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, May 6, in St. William’s Church. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, No.Tewksbury.
