William H. Costello, Jr., passed away on December 10th, 2008 at the Golden Living Center Nursing Home in West Newton. He was born on March 19th, 1922 to his parents William H. and Margaret M. (Meade) Costello. William has been a life long resident of Medford. For over 30 years he served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Metropolitan District Commission Police Officer. He was offered many posts in the department but preferred his duty as sergeant at the Wellington Circle Station in Medford. During World War II, William served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He enjoyed sailing and the friendships he made in the Beachmont area of Revere. William has been a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden his entire life. He is survived by his children, William Costello and his wife Claire of Wakefield and Barbara Scola and her husband Stephen of Medford; by his grandchildren, Christopher, Janet, Junemarie, Stephen, Kevin and Samantha; by his great grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Jamie and Julianne; and by his sister Audrey McGuire of Illinois. William was predeceased by his wife, Claire P. (Everett) Costello; by his granddaughter Jill; and by his sister Jean Sheldon. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Monday December 15th at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church Chapel, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday December 14th from 2-5 PM.
