Edwin F. Claflin, 91, of Mansfield and Wentworth, Nova Scotia passed away on Wednesday December 10, 2008 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham. He was the beloved husband of Ethel G. (Dustin) Claflin to whom he was wed to on December 21, 1940
Born in Attleboro, MA on January 23, 1917 he was a son of the late Edwin F. Claflin and the late Annie M. (Redmond) Claflin-Haskell and her husband Charles Haskell.
He grew up in Attleboro and was educated in Attleboro public schools. Mr. Claflin was a retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic and had been employed by the Pezza Construction Co. in Rhode Island for several years prior to retiring.
Following his retirement he and his wife moved from Mansfield to Wentworth, Nova Scotia where he enjoyed 26 years of the areas beautiful surroundings. He had recently returned to Mansfield in July of this year.
While living in Nova Scotia he was a member of the Wallace River Baptist Church and had been a former longtime member and trustee at the First Christian Church in West Mansfield. Ed treasured the times spent with his adoring family
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 68 years he is survived by his devoted children Robert E. Claflin and his wife Susan Naugler-Claflin of Mansfield and Peggy A. Nelson of Illinois. He was the brother of Kenneth Claflin of Warwick, Rhode Island and the late Velma Cole, Edith Chestnut,Ola Allen and Velma Grimes. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday December16th at 10:00 A.M. in the First Christian Church 13 Otis St. West Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield
Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 15th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield
In lieu of flowers Edwin’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
