Deane C. “Deano” Hill, 76, of Halifax, formerly of Whitman died Wednesday December 10th in his daughter’s home in Halifax, after a courageous battle with brain and colon cancer. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Barbara L. (Nelson) Hill. Deane was born in Whitman and a graduate of Brockton High. He was the son of the late Walter and Ruth (Mann) Hill. Deane was a Whitman resident for many years and worked for the United Shoe & Metal” Shank Shop” for 32 years and after that, he was a clerk in the Seafood Department at Shaw’s supermarket on the east side. He served as a sergeant, in Germany and France during the Korean War from 1949-1953 and received the German Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. His nickname, by many was “Deano” and at the end, they also named him “Smiley” because he always had a smile on his face. His #1 hobby was fishing and he was also a professional cribbage player that won many games on a Brockton Radio Station.
He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah L. Duc and her husband Joseph of Halifax, Susan Holmes of Rockland, his sister Shirley Grant of ME: grandfather of, Stephen Holmes, Sheila Gettemy, Anthony and Nicholas Crealese, Kerrieann Duc, Carly, Deane, Jeffrey, Kenneth, Jr. Hill: great-grandfather of Jackie Holmes, Ethan and Emily Gettemy, his grand dogs Mitsey-Lou and Gizmo: also, he leaves behind his fiancé Mary Corlito and his very dear loving friend Sandy Lorgere. and He was also the father of the late Kenneth Hill, brother of the late Walter and Lillian Hill.
His services will be held on Saturday December 13th at 8:15AM from Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt 58 at the Rotary circle) Whitman, MA., followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Our Lady of the Lake Church, Halifax, MA. Visitation will be held on Friday December 12th from 4:00-8:00PM. Donations may be made in his name to the Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle/Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
