Mr. Walter McGee, 84, of Poulan, Georgia died Tuesday, December 9 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, December 11 at Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church in Ty Ty, Georgia with Elder E.L. “Buck” Wood and Elder Wendell Horten officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester.
Mr. McGee was born December 23, 1923 in Irwin County to the late William Wiley and Lillie Mae Young McGee. He lived in Poulan for the past 6 years and was a former resident of Worth County, Irwin County, Ben Hill County. Mr. McGee retired from Firestone in Albany and was a former employee of Paulk Funeral Home. He was a Sgt in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and was a member of the 18th fighter group. Mr. McGee member and deacon of Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. McGee is survived by his wife, Sarah Whittle McGee of Poulan; sons and daughters-in-law, Marty & Pam McGee of Doles and Chris & Cindy McGee of Sylvester; daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Bill Willingham of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, David Willingham, Tonya Ford, Matt McGee, Carrie Bowen and Casey McGee; great-grandchildren, Samuel Ford, Daniel Ford and Christopher McGahee; sister and brother-in-law, Mattie Lou & Carl Snowden of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
