Julia (Farquhar) Sia, 79, of Medway died Tuesday morning, December 9, 2008 at the Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Angelo Sia who died in 1985.
Born in Boston on August 26, 1929, Julia was the daughter of the late John and Harriet (Easterbrook) Farquhar; she survived all three siblings: Elizabeth (Harlacher), Frederick and Edwin Farquhar. She attended Boston English High School and held an Associates Degree from Northeastern University also of Boston. Mrs. Sia had been a resident of Medway with her family since 1950.
A career woman before it was fashionable, Mrs. Sia worked in an accounting firm in New York City before she was married, followed by several years in the food industry in Boston prior to working at the Medway Post Office. While working with the Post Office, Julia earned her Associate’s Degree in Business. She held various positions within the Federal Postal System, rising through the ranks and ultimately being assigned as Postmaster for the town Mendon, MA in 1983 where she stayed until her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Sia was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of West Medway, MA and the Irish Round Tower in Milford, MA. With her husband she made two memorable trips to Ireland in 1972 and 1978. An avid lover of history and a voracious reader of all genres of books, she also loved to play bridge and scrabble. Her keen and serious interest in her family’s genealogy was another favorite past time, and she was successful to trace the Easterbrook roots back to the Mayflower and recently received the distinction of becoming a member of the Mayflower Society. In her senior years, Mrs. Sia loved and took great care and joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Julia is survived by three sons: Charles A. Sia of Boston, Vincent F. Sia of Medway, and James A. Sia of Sudbury; also three daughters: Edna R. Clifford of Newport, RI, Helen E. Sia of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Mary Anne Maginot of Palmetto, FL. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services to be held on Saturday, December 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Church of West Medway, 193 Main Street in West Medway. Burial services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery also of West Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 12th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, located at 3 Barber Street in Medway.
