Obituary

Joao “John” M. Melo, a 27 year resident of Brockton, passed away, at home Monday, December 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He was 48 years old.

He was the cherished husband of 20 years to Stephanie (Erickson) Melo; a beloved son of Dinis F. and Maria C. (Carvalho) Melo of Sao Miguel, Azores; and the loving father of Jennifer (Melo)Wall and her husband Raymond Wall Jr. of Taunton and Nicholas Melo of Brockton.

Other survivors include his brothers and sisters, Denis Melo, Connie Dias, Eduina Araujo, Elizabeth Melo, Victor Melo, all of Stoughton, Belmira Melo of Vermont, Mariano Melo of Brockton, Jose Melo of Taunton, Rosa Melo of Indiana and Noemia Lavoie of Oxford. He is also survived by his grandson, Ethan John Melo of Brockton; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gerawlyn and Jose De Ana of Brockton; brother-in-law, Jerome Erickson of Maricopa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. John was also a son-in-law of the late Marcelle Erickson and brother to the late Francisco Melo and Leonore' Melo.

John was born June 24, 1960, in Sao Miguel, Azores. As a teenager, he and his family moved to Stoughton,MA where he attended Stoughton Public Schools and Stoughton High School.

John was a self-employed HVAC technician and the proud owner of the Melo Heating and Air Conditioning Company of Brockton.

He was a communicant and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton.

John was an avid Bass Sport Fisherman. He was a member of the Bass Addicts and the American Bass Association, where he was recently awarded the John H. Scott Spirit Award.

He was also a member of Club Luis DeCamoes in Stoughton and was a well-known member of the Portuguese community.

His funeral will be held from the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk St., Stoughton. Thursday, Dec. 11,2008 at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial, for the repose of his soul, at 10:30 a.m., in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West Street, Brockton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, December 10,2008 from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut Street, Brockton, MA 02301, in John’s memory, would be appreciated.
