Obituary

Richard A. Peabody, 74, of Windham, NH died Tuesday December 9, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH. Dick was born in Portsmouth, NH on March 25, 1934, a son of the late Harold and Susan (Yonko) Peabody. He had resided in Windham for the past 39 years, formerly living in Lynn, MA. Dick was employed in elevator construction, service and inspection for nearly 40 years with Beckwith Elevator and later Delta-Beckwith Elevator of Boston, MA. He served as Cub Master and Scout Master for Troop 266 in Windham. Dick coached street hockey, Little League, Babe Ruth baseball and men’s softball. He was a founding member of the Windham Little League and the men’s softball leagues. Dick was also an avid candlepin bowler. He was a member of the Windham Senior Citizens and the Windham Neighborhood Club.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lil (White) Peabody of Windham, two sons, Gene Peabody of Nashua, NH and Kenneth Peabody and his wife Jennifer of Nashua; seven grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Mylin and her husband Leroy of Gloucester, MA, Leona Poulin and her husband Carl of Florida, his brother, David Peabody and his wife Susan of Chicopee, MA, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Richard A. Peabody II who died in 1992 and by his brother, John Peabody who died in 1969.
Calling hours were held on Thursday December 11, 2008 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Due to Friday's ice storm, funeral services have been rescheduled for Saturday December 13th at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cemetery on the Plain, Windham.
