Obituary

Calvin C. Hopkinson, 83, of Westport passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy L. (King) Hopkinson.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alfred L. and H. Phyllis (Chace) Hopkinson, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. He graduated from Westport High School in 1943, where he was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame and also graduated from Bristol Community College with an Associates Degree in Fire Science. A Navy-Air Corps veteran, he served as a dive bomber pilot in WWII. Prior to retirement, he was a repairman for the Telephone Company. Mr. Hopkinson attended Victory Baptist Church in Fairhaven and was a member of the American Legion Post 145 of Westport, Westport Lions Club, Head of Westport Fire Association, Westport Conservation Committee, Telephone Pioneers of America, I.B.E.W. and was a lifetime member of the Westport Fair Committee.

Including his wife, he is survived by a son: David A. Hopkinson of Westport; 3 daughters: Sandra D. Hopkinson of Exton, PA, Stephanie L. Hopkinson of Woonsocket, RI and Susan R. Boyer of Westport; 6 sisters: Martha Jane Cowen Davis of Wilmington, NC, Marilyn A. Rounds of Westport, Meribah M. Henriques of Tiverton, RI, Merva Ruth Gray of Westport, Norma B. Rose of Falmouth and Myrtle L. Earle of Westport; 7 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Calvin C. Hopkinson, Jr. and brother of the late Stanley B. Hopkinson.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M.

Calling hours Friday 3 - 7 P.M.

Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
