Mary Nan Stanley Sone, 68, of Tifton died Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center, ending an eight-year battle with a heart condition. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, followed by graveside services in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008, at the home of Jonathan and Betsy Jones, located at 1228 Baytree Drive in Tifton.
Ms. Sone was born on February 15, 1940 in Oakdale, Louisiana and was the daughter of William Hays Stanley and Rennah Rebecca Early Stanley, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one son, David Stanley Sone. She graduated from Oakdale High School in May 1958 and from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in May 1962.
Ms. Sone was loved by every life she touched and was an inspiration to her family and friends. During her 25-year career as an elementary school music teacher, music was an integral part of her life. She was active in her church choir, was a member of the Texas Choral Directors Association and was the director of The Spring Branch Girls Choir for 18 years.
Ms. Sone is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Sone; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Nan and Jim O'Rourke of Denver, Colorado, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" and Jonathan Jones of Tifton; one daughter-in-law, Janet Sone of Manor, Texas; grandchildren, Kathryn Elizabeth "Katie" O'Rourke, Ryan Hays O'Rourke, William Sone "Will" Jones, Rebecca Lea "Becca" Jones, Hays Stanley Jones, Christopher Lawrence Sone and his wife Crystal; and great grandchildren, Devin Michele Sone and Kara Marie Sone.
