Obituary

BELLINGHAM—Donald E. Wozniak 73, of Bellingham, and a former Franklin resident died Saturday December 6, 2008 at the Continuing Care Center in Hopedale, following a long illness. He was the former husband of Gertrude C. (Vogt) Wozniak of Holliston.

Born in Buffalo, New York March 29, 1935 a son of the late John J. and Irene H. (Ornowski) Wozniak, he was raised and educated in Buffalo. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Collegiate Institute class of 1952, and also attended Buffalo State Teachers College and Canisus College in New York.

Mr. Wozniak retired in 1992 from the American Greeting Card Company, where he worked as a sales representative for over 27 years.

He was a 24 year member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard. He entered in 1952, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the Korean, Viet-Nam and Desert Storm eras.

He was a former call firefighter for the town of Bellingham, was past president of the Center Firefighters Association, was a former Bellingham Park Commissioner, and was an active member of the Bellingham Council on Aging and the Bellingham Senior Citizens. He was a volunteer for Hospice in Mendon, and worked on the Meals on Wheels Program. He was a senior center van driver and trip coordinator and he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin, and served on the pastoral committee. He was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

He is survived by two sons Atty. John M. Wozniak of Blackstone, and Donald E. Wozniak II of Boston, a daughter Donna Marie Griffiths of Franklin, a brother Thomas Wozniak of Buffalo, New York, nine grandchildren and a special friend Rita Tetrault of Bellingham.

He was the father of the late William M. Wozniak who died on November 28, 2008.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with Military Honors Wednesday December 10, 2008 at 8:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin (www.franklinfuneral.com), with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin at 9AM.

Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Tuesday December 9, 2008 from 4 ~ 8PM.
