Michael George Soares, 39, of New Bedford died December 2, 2008 tragically at Boston Medical Center.
He was the loving husband of Elsie (Aguiar) Soares and the proud father of Paige and Alexias Soares, all of New Bedford.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Mary U. (Amaral) Soares of New Bedford and the late George P. "Alfaiate" Soares, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mike was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Mary's Church in New Bedford.
An artisan of his trade, he worked as a carpenter for many years after graduating from Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech in 1988. He was employed as a superintendent for S&F Concrete for the past 13 years.
He loved spending time with his family and vacationing in the Carribean. Mike was an avid New England sports fan who also enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; his children; his sister, Bernadette "Berni" Costa and her husband Tercio "T.C." of Palm Coast, FL; two brothers, Steve Soares and his wife Beth and Angelo Soares, all of New Bedford; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jose and Ermelinda Aguiar, both of North Dartmouth; his brother-in-law, Odilardo "Dee" Aguiar and his wife Terri of New Bedford; his sister-in-law, Bela Sa and her husband Dennis of North Dartmouth; several nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, December 9th at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, New Bedford at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, December 8th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Soares Children Education Fund at Sovereign Bank at 1230 Braley Road, New Bedford, MA 02745.
