Obituary

Daniel F. Harrington Jr. a 5 year resident of North Billerica and formerly a longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Wednesday December 3, 2008 at Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell after an extended illness. He was 87 years old.

Dan was born in Charlestown on September 15, 1921. He grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Scools and graduated from Commerce High School of Boston in 1941. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War 2. He began working for The Boston Fire Department in 1948 and served the City of Boston with assignments at Ladder Company # 22, Engine Company # 50, Boston Fire Boat and Engine Company # 32. He retired after 34 years of service to The Boston Fire Department in 1982. He was a member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718.

Dan is the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (Enright) Harrington. He is the devoted father of Mary Beth Harrington and her husband Michael Betcher of North Billerica, Daniel F. Harrington lll and his wife Lori of Orleans, Geralyn Harrington of Billerica, Gerard R. Harrington and his wife Jane of Wilbraham, Christine Chase and her husband Bernard of Charlestown and Robert G. Harrington and his wife Lori of Billerica. He is the loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren. He is the the brother of Mary Thurber of Mansfield and the late John and Rose Harrington.

Dan's Funeral will be held on Tuesday December 9, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday December 8, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
