FAIRHAVEN — George R. Coelho, age 65 years, of Fairhaven, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. He was the husband of Christine (Hawes) Coelho.
Born in Fairhaven, son of the late John and Gladys (Brazil) Coelho, he was educated in the Fairhaven school system and had been employed for many years as an EMT and worked at St. Luke's Hospital until retiring.
A talented singer, George was also Director of Civil Defense in Fairhaven in the mid-1970's and a call firefighter. George was a world traveler and enjoyed touring.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Eleanor Jacobson and Elsie Jacobson; his brother, Carl Bissonette; his sister-in-law, Susan Dupuis; and many nieces and nephews including Courtney McFarland and daughter Abigail.
He was brother of the late Robert Bissonette and Irene Almeida.
Visitation will take place at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford on Friday, December 5, 2008, from 4-7 P.M. His service will be Saturday 9 A.M., at the funeral home followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
