Obituary

Bert was born May 24, 1924 in Danville, Illinois, son of the late Cyrus Cook and Ethel Reynolds Cook. He was the oldest of four children. He as a graduate of Manual High School in Peoria, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 3rd Armored Division in World War Two. He served under General Omar Bradley, a man he admired. He worked as an engineer at Continental Can Company in Chicago for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife Josephine
Fiumefreddo), his sister Mary Ann and his brother Shirlen "Gene". He is survived by his sister, Ruth York; children Evelyn Cook, Marilyn (Cook) Harfst, Brian Cook, Roger Cook and Bradley Cook.

He was honest, tender-hearted and generous, but quick-tempered; yet, he had a sharp wit and was equally quick to laugh. He enjoyed playing tennis with friends in Marquette Park, working daily crossword puzzles, and offering wry commentary on political leaders. He leaves vivid memories to those who knew him.

Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood,
Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 80459, Charleston, SC 29416 or St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.
