OBITUARY

Fitchburg

Olga Elizabeth Lanides
Retired Assistant Treasurer and Clerk of the Corporation of the former
Charlton Comapny Inc.

Olga E. Lanides,87, of Fitchburg passed away Monday December 1, at
home surrounded by her loved ones after a long and courageous battle
with cancer.
Olga was born in Fitchburg June 18, 1921, the daughter of the late James
and Eilzabeth (Lekas) Lanides. She graduated from Fitchburg High School
in 1939 and following graduation, began her career as an assistant
bookkeeper with the Charlton Co. in Leominster. She retired in 1983 after
48 years of dedicated service with Charlton as the assistant Treasurer and
Clerk of the Corporation.
Olga was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in
Fitchburg, where she was an active member and former officer of the Elpis
Society and the Ladies Philoptochos. She was also a past president of the
local chapter of the Daughters of Penelope.
She volunteered substantial time to the community, working for many
years at the election polls and donating her time on a regular basis to the
Burbank Hospital Gift Shop.
She took great pride in her membership in the Beacon of Hope, where she
was extremely involved with Special Needs children. She cherished her
time traveling the country to attend the annual conventions of the U.S.
Army's 104th Infantry Division, Company "H" also known as the "Timber
wolves" with her brother Arthur.
Olga was loved and admired and respected by all who knew her. Having no
children of her own, her life was fulfilled by her nieces and nephews and
many great nieces and great nephews, all of whom thought of her as their
second mother and great grandmother.
She loved spending time with her very special great nephew Michael T.
Nikitas, with whom she enjoyed attending theater productions, dining out
and walking the Searstown mall.
Miss Lanides leaves behind an adoring family including nieces Elizabeth
(Lanides) and her husband Theodore M. Nikitas of Leominster, Victoria
Lanides of Leominster and Phigalia Vaso of Greece.
Her nephews, Charles Labovites and wife Janice of Springfield, Va., Vlasi
Konomi of Albania. Great niece and godchild Stephanie (Nikitas) and her
husband Anthony Renzi of Potomac. Md. Francine (Nikitas) and her
husband Robert Ayles of Leominster, Niki (Labovites) and her husband
Gary Lachica of Springfield, Va. and Xanthe Labovites of Winthrop, Ma.
Great nephews, Michael T. Nikitas of Leominster, George J. Lanides and
his wife Gina Coletti of Bronx. N.Y., Gregory Lanides of New Jersey, James
Labovites and Candy Robinson of Colorado and her godson Dr. Spyro
Vulgaropolos of Cary, N.C.
Miss Lanides is predeceased by her brothers, George J. Lanides of
Fitchburg, Arthur J. Lanides of Leominster. Two sisters, Efthalia Labovites
of Worcester
and Efrosine Konomi of Albania and her nephew James T. Lanides of
Leominster.
Funeral services for Olga will be held on Friday December 5 at 11:00 A.M.
at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 1409 Main St. Burial will follow in
Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom
St. are Thursday December 4 from 5 to 8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Holy Trinity Greek
Orthodox Church 1409 Main St. Fitchburg, Ma. 01420, or to the charity of
one's choice.
