66, optometrist, grandfather
Robert W. McQueeney, 66, of Manomet, died Monday, Dec. 1, at Jordan Hospital after a long struggle with cancer. He was the husband of Kathleen (Kunz) McQueeney.
Born May 27, 1942, in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Henry and Grace McQueeney and brother of the late Henry L. McQueeney. He graduated from Boston College High School, Boston College, and the New England College of Optometry. After serving in the Air Force, he became an optometrist, opening his practice in Manomet in 1973. His ties to Dorchester kept him working at neighborhood clinics there throughout his career. He was the staff optometrist at the Neponset Health Center in Dorchester for over 30 years. Dr. McQueeney enjoyed cooking and gardening, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Creane and her husband Brett, and Brenda Marinos and her husband Leon, and his grandchildren Grace VanBuskirk, Seeger Creane, Miriam and Katie Mindel, and Ryan and Alexis Marinos, all of Plymouth, his stepmother Rita McQueeney of Mansfield, his mother-in-law, Katherine Kunz of Roslindale, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 5, from 4-7 p.m. at the Richard Davis Funeral Home in Manomet. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bonaventure’s Church on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday will be private.
