TEWKSBURY: Marcel J. Prince, age 85, a Tewksbury resident for 48 years, formerly of Nashua, NH, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell, MA
He was the devoted husband of Evelyn M. (Bell) Prince, with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on November 22nd.
Born in Manchester, NH on November 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Eugene A. and the late Delima (Bernaquez) Prince.
Mr. Prince was raised in Nashua, NH, attended Nashua schools and graduated from Nashua High School in 1942. He later attended Northeastern University, where he received his B.S. Degree in Business Management.
Mr. Prince served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated during the battles at Normandy and Okinawa. Following World War II, he re-enlisted and served during the Korean War. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including a Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, The American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Medal with one star.
Mr. Prince resided in Ludlow, MA until moving to Tewksbury in 1959.
He was employed as a financial analyst by AVCO Systems Company of Wilmington and later with the Henschel Corporation of Amesbury until his retirement.
In earlier years, he volunteered his time to the Tewksbury Little League Baseball Program and served as manager of the “Colts”.
He was an accomplished golfer and was a member of the Longmeadow Golf Club of Tewksbury. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, was an avid sports enthusiast and loved spending time with his family.
According to his family, in 2007, he was honored with the title of “Le Grande Prince d’ Amerique by the Prince family Association of Canada.
In addition to his wife, he is survived his seven children, Mark H. Prince and his wife Anita of Wilmette, IL, Patricia M. Zube of Manchester, NH and her husband Stanley of Hudson, NH, Elizabeth A. Silva and her husband David of Rock Hill, SC, Christopher J. Prince and his wife Susan of Andover, Robert J. Prince of Tewksbury, Gail C. Reczek and her husband Gerard of Andover and Richard J. Prince and his wife Karen of Bedford; ten grandchildren, Kayla, Hanna, Jared, Jennifer and Trevor Prince, Laura, Peter and his fiance Honeyeh Katbab, and Daniel Zube, Amanda and Adam Reczek; seven brothers, Louis Prince, Peter Prince and his wife Carol, Paul Prince and his wife Helen all of Nashua, NH, Robert Prince of Hudson, NH, Maurice Prince and his wife Patsi of Lake Charles, LA, George Prince of Dixmont, ME and Albert Prince and his wife Patricia of Hudson, NH; five sisters, Gabrielle Kinney of Nashua, NH, Pauline LaMothe of Springfield, Joan Dobens and her husband William and Cecile Lane all of Nashua, NH and Jacqueline and Louis Faucher of Londonderry, NH; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Prince was the brother of the late Carmel Christie and brother-in-law of the late Lucille Prince, Marjorie Prince, Richard Kinney, Joseph LaMothe and Munson Lane.
Calling hours Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Thursday, Dec. 4th, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothy’s Church, cor. of Main (Route 38)& Harnden Sts., Wilmington.
