Catherine Sweeney, 67, passed away at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on November 28th, 2008. She was born in Boston on December 14th, 1940 to her parents William and Anna (Kelly) Lynch. Catherine was raised and educated in Charlestown and has been a resident of Malden for the past 42 years. She worked as a Crossing Guard for the City of Malden, helping children from area schools cross safely at the intersection of Adams and West Street. She also worked in the cafeteria at both the Beebe and Emerson Schools in Malden for several years. Catherine was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Irish American Club in Malden. Upon her retirement, Catherine and her husband Edward would travel to St. Pete’s Beach in Florida each year during the winter months. She is survived by her husband, Edward F. Sweeney Jr. of Malden; by her children, Karen Powers and her husband Michael of Malden, Michael Sweeney and his wife Michelle of Malden, Brian Sweeney and his wife Elisa of Stoneham and Linda Sweeney and her friend Thomas Gannon of Methuen; by her grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley, Brittany and Jillian Powers, Christopher McNeill and Kierra, Mikey, Brendan and Jack Sweeney; and by her siblings, Patricia Hayes of Melrose, Dorothy O’Donnell of Malden and Gerald Lynch of Attleboro. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her brothers, John, William and Francis Lynch. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Wednesday December 3rd at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 9 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday December 2nd from 4-8 PM.
