Obituary

Viola A. Basta, 85, of Malden, MA died Friday November 28, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Basta was born in Far Rockaway, NY on September 6, 1923, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Anna (Frederico) Basta. She had resided in Malden since 1989, formerly living in Rockville Center, NY. Mrs. Basta had been employed as an executive secretary in NYC, NY for Judge Rosenman who worked as a legal advisor for President’s Truman and Roosevelt. She also volunteered as a seamstress making costumes for school plays. In addition to her love of reading, she was a devoted Nana, Mother and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue-Anne Brabant and her husband Bob of Derry, NH, her son, Scott LoManto and his wife Carole of Malden, her grandson, John Brabant of Derry, her sister-in-law, Margaret Basta of Cedarhurst, NY, also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank A. LoManto, by her son, John LoManto, by her grandson, Justin Brabant and also by her brothers, Jerry and Louis Basta.
There are no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday December 2, 2008 at 10:00am in Holy Cross Church, 187 Hampstead Rd., Derry. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. Memorial donations may be made to the Justin Brabant Memorial Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 1714, Derry, NH 03038 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is in charge of arrangements.
