Arnold G. Seamans 83 died Thursday November 27th after a period of failing health.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio he was the son of the late Elton and Florence (Cook) Seamans.
Arnold was a resident of Whitman for most of his life and a graduate of Whitman High School Class of 1942.
He was a 1946 graduate of Kings Point Academy in New York. He then served for more than 25 years in the Merchant Marines, attaining the rank of Chief Engineer, serving aboard the vessels SS Examiner, the Flying Fish and the Flying Cloud, as well as many other ships.
He was an avid reader of history and was fascinated by the Civil War. He was also an active member of the Whitman Amateur Radio Club, call sign KJ1X.
He is survived by his sister Patricia Smith of Marshfield, his brother Elton “Basha” Seamans of Maine, and his dear friend Tricia Eddy and her family of Whitman.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday December 2nd from 10-11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Followed by a graveside service at 11 AM in the Colebrook Cemetery, Essex Street, Whitman. Donations in his name may be made to the Old Colony Hospice One Credit Union Way Randolph, MA 02368.
