Obituary

On November 24th, Edward B. Maccaferri of Plymouth passed away at his home at the age of 86. He was the husband of the late Margie Ellen (Winnell) Maccaferri. They were married 63 years. A lifelong resident of Plymouth, Mr. Maccaferri was born on August 1, 1922, to Achille Maccaferri and Mary (Tedeschi) Maccaferri. He attended Plymouth schools and graduated from Plymouth High School, Class of 1940. Mr. Maccaferri also obtained a degreee in business administration from Boston University. Mr. Maccaferri volunteered to join the Army Air Corps as a cadet in May 1942. He served as a bombardier instructor and was commissioned in 1944. He also served overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Compaign out of Guam. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in May 1946. Mr. Maccaferrri was active in the Boy Scouts as a youth and later became a Scout Leader. He was a member of the Plymouth Rotary Club since 1953 and served as president from 1969 - 1970. He was also an influential member of the Plymouth Redevelopment Authority during the reconstruction of the Summer/High Street areas. His other activities included the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, the Pilgrim Society, and the Plimoth Plantation. Mr. Maccaferri worked at the Puritan Clothing Company of Plymouth and Rockland as Treasurer and later as CEO. He retired in 1988 when he sold his interest in the business. He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands Delia and Lloyd Bankson of Union, WA; and Paula and Ronald Shoup of Melbourne, FL and his son Edward B. Maccaferri Jr. and his wife Judy of Plymouth. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister, Jean Fryermouth of Plymouth. Mr. Maccaferri is preceded in death by his four brothers: Charles A. Maccaferri, John F. Maccaferri, Columbo Maccaferri and Harold T. Maccaferri. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Jordan Hospital Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360.
