Polly Adams Leis, a gift to all who knew her, peacefully passed away on November 19th. Her love of family and Cape Cod was amazing. Polly grew up spending summers in Sagamore Beach and had lived there full-time since 1981. Her cottage was built by her grandfather and was one of the first colony homes. She was very proud of her family’s role in Sagamore Beach’s 100 year history and was dedicated to preserving everyone’s memories. As a teenager, she worked for her dad, A.D. Adams, at the summer camp in Sagamore Beach that he began. Polly was born in Pittsburg, PA, as was her mother, Kay Adams. Because her father taught at Kimball Union Academy, she was the only female to attend the all male school. She graduated high school from Northfield and attended business school in Richmond, VA where she met her husband, Joseph Leis. They moved to Florida, where after raising six children and years of missing New England, she relocated to Mass. and worked for the state. Upon retiring, she loved knitting, cross-stitching and scrap booking. Her elaborate gift-wrappings and creative poems are fondly remembered. Polly’s gardening and cottage showcased her incredible view of the Cape Cod Bay, especially from her porch. Beginning in 1982, Polly began having an annual week-long family reunion. That evolved into hosting other annual birthday parties and her famous Halloween Party. Her invitations were works of art and her parties always had perfect weather, year after year. She passed her love of cookie-making to all her family and she never forgot to send a birthday card or anniversary card to all. Besides her husband, she is survived by her devoted family, son Mike and wife Lona of Sylvia, NC; son Steve and wife Debbie of Ft. Pierce, FL; and son Tom of Ft. Myers, FL. She also leaves her daughter Kathy Ann and husband Fran of Blandford, daughter Toni of Westfield, and son Terry and wife Karen of Huntington. She leaves 15 beloved grand children and 18 much beloved great grandchildren. Polly was very close to her brother Frederick and wife Judy of Harwich and cousins Jacqueline and Anne of Sagamore Beach along with Ginny of Weymouth. They and their families were very special to Polly. She leaves her good friends Lynn, Julia and Roberta. And she leaves us all with a profound love of her beach, her memories, her love of books and her house beside the sea. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Cod Needy Fund, P.O Box 36, Hyannis, MA 02601. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
