Christopher E. Wilkins, a Winthrop resident and former longtime Charlestown resident, died on Monday, November 24, 2008, at his home in Winthrop following a valiant battle with cancer. He was 45 years old.
Chris was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End of Boston in 1981. He attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy for 2 years and later served in The United States Coast Guard, serving his country for 3 years and was discharged in 1990. He later attended The Peterson's School in Woburn from which he recieved his Stationary Firemens license. Chris has worked the past 15 years as a Stationary Fireman at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. He has been a very active member for the last 15 years with his Union Local # 1067 A.F.S.C.M.E. which he served as Vice President Parlementarian and Chief Steward for several years.
Chris is the beloved son of Richard L. and Mary (McBride) Wilkins of Cape Neddick, Maine formerly of Charlestown. He is the devoted brother of William J. Wilkins and his wife Sandra of Melrose, Nan Wilkins of Charlestown, Gregory F. Wilkins and his wife Teresa of Indianopolis, Indiana and Clare M. Wilkins of Charlestown. He is the loving uncle of Olivia, Aidan, Quinn and Collin. He is the beloved best fiend of Jacqueline "Jackie" Dalton of Winthrop.
Chris's Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Chris will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
