Obituary

LOWELL—Stephen J. Driscoll, 71 years old, died Friday morning at his home after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Blackwell) Driscoll, and the late Margaret (Kelly) Driscoll, who died in 1965.

He was born in Lowell, on July 7, 1931, a son of the late Mortimer J. and Vera (Lawlor) Driscoll. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Keith Academy, Class of 1949.

Mr. Driscoll served in U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Foreman by the New England Telephone Company for over 35 years, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and was the last President of the I.B.T.W. He also spent many hours as a counselor for the Samaritans.

Surviving him besides his wife of thirty three years are six daughters and two sons-in-law: Marianne and William Gaffney, of Methuen; Maureen Driscoll, of Methuen; Kathleen Driscoll, of Canterbury, NH; Margaret Driscoll, of Dracut; Colleen Driscoll, of Lowell; and Anne and Scott Finley, of Lawrence; a brother and sister-in-law: David and Laurette Driscoll, of Lowell; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 29th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass to be offered Wednesday, April 30th, at 10 AM at ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH, North Andover. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donation in his memory may be made to St. Michael’s Church Building Fund; 80 Maple Avenue, North Andover, MA 01845.
