Obituary

Roy Jerome Murray, 85, of Seattle, Washington died October 13, 2007 at Swedish First Hill in Seattle.

Graveside services will be held 1 P.M., Saturday, November 29 in the Irwinville Cemetery, with Rev. Jeff Cummings officiating.

Mr. Murray was born December 1, 1924 in Irwinville to the late James and Effie McGuire Murray. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WW II in the Pacific Campaign and later joined the Merchant Marines. Mr. Murray worked for Fisher Flour Mill in Seattle, and in 1957 joined the International Longshore and Warehouseman’s Union (ILWU) Local 19, He retired in 1985 from the ILWU after a serious injury. Mr. Murray married his wife in 1953, raising twelve children in their West Seattle home, Eight of their own and four they considered their own. No child was ever turned away form their large busy home. Even in his last days, he was surrounded by his wife, kids, grandkids and great grandbabies, up to the moment of his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Monita Murray of Seattle, WA; sons, Roger (Elise), James, Bryan (Anna), Kelly, Jaywan (Song) and Bill; daughters, Janice (Jim), Audrey (Robert), Tina, Diane (Ross) and Ann; 33 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including Bobbie Griffin of Irwinville. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John, sister, Jo, daughter, Debbie, son, Monte, grandson, Andy and a grandchild, Dale.
