Laurence E. "Sully" Sullivan of Norfolk, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at his home, hours after celebrating his 80th birthday. He was the husband of Helen M. (Curley) Sullivan, who died in 2002.
Born in Franklin in November 1928, a son of the late John and Aldea (St. Pierre) Sullivan, he had lived in Franklin for most of his life until moving to Norfolk 28 years ago.
He was educated locally, and was a graduate of Norfolk Agricultural School in Walpole, where he was class president and class valedictorian.
He was a self-employed carpenter and building contractor.
He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and enjoyed travel.
He is survived by four sons, Laurence E. Sullivan Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Jaffrey, N.H., John T. and his wife, Katherine, Timothy M. and his wife, Tammy, Thomas J. and his wife, Maureen Sullivan, all of Franklin; two daughters, Linda J. Pennington and her husband, George, of Bellingham, Laurie J. Barlow and her husband, Philip, of Franklin; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Frederick Sullivan and Arlene Garneau.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 8:15 a.m., at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. (www.franklinfuneral.com), Franklin, with a funeral Mass at 9 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Franklin.
Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
