Obituary

Dorothy A. (Ferola) Florino, A long-time Medford resident died Friday at the Hammersmith House Nursing Care Center, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 71.

Mrs. Florino was born and raised in Somerville, the daughter of the late John and the late Mary (Tosi) Ferola.

A Medford resident for more than 50 years, Mrs. Florino was the wife of the late Edward J. Florino, long-time director of Veteran’s Affairs for the City of Medford.Dorothy is remembered for her love for spring-time. She was a great enthusiast of gardening and often traveled to Rhode Island to tour gardens. Her own home, in North Medford, was a showcase for many varieties of roses and rhododendrons. Dorothy also loved to dance.

Mrs. Florino was a member of the VFW of Arlington, The Italian Club of Medford and the Horticultural Society of Rhode Island.

In addition to her late husband, she is survived by her daughter and son in law, Dorothy and William Schenk of Malden. She also leaves her brothers Robert Ferola of Waltham, Rick Ferola, Carl Ferola, both of California, and the late John Ferola. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Medford, at 9AM with the Reverend Joseph Scorzello, celebrant.Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
